HoundPower Maintenance & Care Manual

Keep Your Slatmill Running for Decades

After Every Use

Wipe down rails, frame, and harness attachment points with a damp cloth
Brush or vacuum hair and debris from slats and underneath the deck
Check that the belt tracks centered (not drifting left or right)
Inspect harness clips and D-rings for proper function

Weekly Maintenance

Vacuum thoroughly around and under the unit — hair accumulates in rollers
Inspect slats for cracks, warping, or excessive wear
Check harness hardware (clips, D-rings, stitching) for integrity
Spin the belt by hand — it should rotate smoothly with no grinding or resistance
Wipe down the frame with a dry cloth to prevent dust buildup

Monthly Maintenance

Inspect bearings for smooth rotation — listen for grinding or unusual sounds
Clean bearing housings of accumulated hair and dust
Check all bolts and fasteners for tightness — retighten if needed
Inspect the brake mechanism for proper engagement and release
Check belt tension — too tight creates drag, too loose causes slipping

Belt Tension Adjustment

If the belt feels too tight or too loose:

  • Locate the rear roller adjustment bolts
  • Turn in 1/4-turn increments only
  • Test after each adjustment — spin the belt by hand
  • The belt should move freely but not slip under load

  • Every 3–6 Months

Lubricate bearings (if your model uses serviceable/non-sealed bearings). Use manufacturer-recommended lubricant only.
Deep clean the entire unit — remove all panels if accessible, clean interior
Check belt alignment and tracking — adjust rear roller if belt has drifted
Inspect the speedometer sensor (Pro models) — clean and verify it reads accurately

    Storage Tips

  • Store in a dry, climate-controlled space. Moisture damages bearings and can warp wood slats.
  • Cover when not in use to prevent dust accumulation.
  • Store indoors — garages are fine if dry, but avoid unheated sheds in winter.
  • If storing long-term (1+ month), spin the belt a few rotations monthly to prevent flat spots on bearings.

    What NOT to Do

  • Never use WD-40 on bearings — it's a solvent, not a lubricant. Use bearing-specific grease.
  • Never pressure wash the slatmill — water will destroy bearings and electronics.
  • Never force the belt if it's jammed — investigate the cause first.
  • Never store outdoors or in direct sunlight — UV and moisture will degrade materials.
